Different network types create different resilience strengths
Bonding, bridging, and linking ties each build resilience in unique ways.
Resilience grows when communities invest in the diversity of their networks. But networks are not all the same. Bonding ties connect close friends and families, providing immediate support. Bridging ties link across groups, spreading ideas and resources. Linking ties reach into institutions, opening doors to influence. Resilient communities cultivate and manage all three. Too much bonding can create insularity. Too much linking without bonding may lack trust. Balance creates both strength and reach.
