Clear definitions prevent talking past each other

Shared language reduces confusion and builds alignment in resilience work.

Resilience work often stalls because people use the same words differently. Resilience, risk and recovery all mean different things to different people. Without clarity, people talk past each other, and trust erodes. Shared definitions don’t need to be perfect, but they must be explicit. Naming what we mean creates alignment, builds trust and reduces conflict, and helps communities work together. Resilience grows when definitions connect rather than confuse.
